Established in 2012, the Polish Polar Consortium (PPC) is a cooperation platform for 15 member universities and research institutes to stimulate and facilitate collaboration in research projects and logistic support in the Arctic and Antarctica. In cooperation with the Committee on Polar Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, PPC represents the polar research community in relation to the government, research funding agencies, and other decision-makers. The University of Silesia in Katowice is the PPC leader and the host institution for the Secretariat.
After two terms of service and fruitful activities, the election of the new Executive Committee (https://www.pkpolar.pl/eng/executive-committee-and-board/) took place on October 28, 2022. Delegates to the PPC Board have elected:
President – Dariusz Ignatiuk, PhD (University of Silesia in Katowice),
Deputy President – Robert Bialik, PhD, Assoc. Prof. (Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics Polish Academy of Sciences),
Deputy President – Matt Strzelecki, PhD, Assoc. Prof. (University of Wrocław),
Executive Director – Ela Łepkowska, PhD (University of Silesia in Katowice).
The new and young ExCom will start its term of service (2023-2026) in January with fresh ideas, positive energy, and openness to wider international cooperation.
